Innovation Camp Info & Registration

Do you like to explore, innovate, problem-solve and create? Do you love to work on fun projects with your friends? Join us in the Guerin Family Institute and Fab Lab for one or two weeks of design, problem-solving, creativity, and fun!

Open to students from Milken and across Los Angeles entering grades 6-8 in fall 2024.

You will learn to design and create using all of the tools offered in the Guerin including the laser cutters, 3D printers, large format printers and more!

We will offer two courses per week, offering guided lessons and hands-on projects. The morning session will be from 8:30AM to 11:00AM, and the afternoon session will be from 11:30AM to 2:00PM.

These sessions are facilitated by our experienced Upper School Milken students and faculty in the Innovation and Fabrication Department. Students will have opportunities to become problem-finders & problem-solvers; they will design, build, iterate and refine. Students can expect to experience 3D design, computer-aided design (CAD), and use our 3D printers, laser cutters, large format printers, and more.

Please note, the timing of the Innovation Camps is compatible with Middle School Athletics Clinics options. While we do not offer lunch on campus, there is a break time for lunch. Please send a snack and water bottle with your student each day (and lunch if they’re staying for the whole day). Unfortunately, daily camp options are not available.

Week 1 Morning Session: Theme Park Week

Explore your favorite theme parks. What makes them your favorite? The characters? The rides? Something different? Explore your favorite theme parks and as a group we will create a scale model of our own theme park using science, physics, design, creativity, fabrication and more.

Week 1 Afternoon Session: Shark Tank for Good!

Using the Design Thinking process, participants will create business concepts and ideas to bring to fruition. They will create prototypes of designs that will help make the world a better place!

Week 2 Morning Session: Storytelling Comes Alive

During this session, students will create a story (or re-create a favorite story of their own) and use design elements to make these stories come alive.  Stories may be told through robotics, animation, virtual reality or other tools of choice.  Come see how storytelling and technology go hand in hand.

Week 2 Afternoon Session: Tinkering, Making & Building

Utilizing the resources of the Guerin Family Institute students will have an opportunity to explore their own creative ideas. This is a great opportunity for students who have taken Milken Innovation class before to let their creativity and design ideas flourish. Beginners are also welcome!

Two weeks only! Limited space available.
